A GB News presenter has been ordered to pay damages to a Green Party deputy leader for making false claims about disorder at Harehills. The deputy leader won the defamation case, with the court ruling that the presenter's allegations were untrue and awarding substantial damages. The decision comes after the presenter's social media posts accused the deputy leader of inciting violence during a protest. The court found that the presenter's claims were unsubstantiated. The deputy leader's legal team argued that the presenter's posts were malicious. The judge agreed, stating that the presenter's actions were unprofessional. The damages awarded were considered considerable. The case highlights the importance of verifying information before publication. The presenter may appeal the decision, but for now, the deputy leader has secured a victory. The incident has sparked discussions about the need for better fact-checking. The Green Party has expressed relief in the outcome, while GB News has yet to comment on the ruling.
